Corona Virus Discovered in Semen
Corona Virus Discovered in Semen after some Chinese scientists examined the semen of some infected patient that the COVID-19 virus did exist in the semen of some.
With this observed trend, it seems the virus could be sexually transmitted. However, there has been disparing views over whether the virus could be transmitted through sex.
However,it is yet to be known whether the research discovered new active viruses or just old traces. This is because for a virus to be infectious, it has to be active. So opponents to this new new discovery insist that viral genomes are common with human secretions, after all.
Based on the research that was conducted on 38 infected men, 6 tested positive for Corona virus in their semen. The research was carried out by Chinese doctor at China Shanghai municipal hospital.
However, the doctors pointed out that the results were only based on research carried out on a small number of infected people. Good. Be that as it may, more extensive researches and studies are required to validify whether the disease is sexually transmitted.
With further researches, some important information like virus shedding, concentration in semen and survival time would be gotten. Based on a publication by the team of doctors in the Journal of the American Medical Association, this information is very important before any reasonable conclusions can be made.
Proving whether SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted sexually would be a milestone towards implementing preventive measures against the pandemic.
Still, a lot of other isolated findings did not reveal the coronavirus in the semen. In view of this, other experts insist the matter should be approached cautiously. This should be in order to establish accurate findings on the issue.
According to a professor of Andrology at the Sheffield University, United Kingdom, Allan Pacey, there had been some inconsistencies and difficulties in testing semen.
So, the postulations should not be considered with any note of finality. Moreso,as the results did not show the active nature or otherwise of the uncovered viruses.
All the same, it should not come as a surprise if the SARS-CoV-2 is found in semen. This is because such findings would only be consistent with what have already been observed with other viruses like the Zika virus and Ebola.
